Neesha’s Notes

It may feel intimidating to approach such a huge foundation, but remember, without partners on the ground, they wouldn't be able to achieve their mission.

  • If you're working on land or water conservation, the Packard Foundation has developed quite a few novel financing tools.

  • If you are located in the Western US, you may be able to connect more easily via their grantee, the Resources Legacy Fund.

  • If you’re working on a climate solution, the Packard Foundation invests in innovation and donates via the ClimateWorks Foundation.

  • Their biggest grant in 2021 was for the Energy Foundation ($11.500,000).

FOR GRANTMAKERS

The David and Lucile Foundation has allocated $500 million to slow climate change.

Even though the foundation gives to other causes, it has made climate change a core focus. I applaud this move.

Unless there’s a planet that can sustain human life, philanthropic investments in the arts or education don’t make sense. They realize that and fund regenerative solutions on land and in the oceans.

The Packard Foundation invests in restoring the health and productivity of oceans and coasts on which all life depends. Oceans provide an essential source of food for people around the world, supports our economies, and regulate our climate. Human pressures, such as overfishing, development and climate change threaten the health of our oceans. Today, our marine conservation work focuses on improving fisheries management, conserving critical coastal ecosystems and enhancing scientific understanding of our oceans.
